Busy, Flaky, Funny, Jangly, Honesty
I probably shouldn't blog - because I'm uber tired, but it's my lunch break and I'm too tired to write or revise credibly and my eyeballs feel like falling out of my face so reading is out *gasp* so OMG I'm going to blog!
This week sees me as being uber busy - which isn't really that unusual, just not really at a point that I wanted to be busy. I have things that I've promised people I would do and because stuff happens I'm sort of a flake. I hate flakes. I'm pissed at myself for being flaky. Flakyness is a sore subject right now; because of flake behavior my bestfriend and I haven't seen or really spoken to each other in months. I just got tired to being flaked on and just decided there was no point in getting upset about stuff and said something polite and all - well, when you want to hang out, call me. We haven't spoken. I'm not upset at her, but I'm upset that everything has unraveled like it has. I try very hard to be dependable and come through on stuff, because I know how much it sucks to not be able to depend on people - and I've been a wonderful flake recently.
Goal for the next week: improve on the flaky behavior.
So what am I busy with this week?
Well, last night I went to see Iron Man 2 with guy-friend (I have to come up with a better way to name people for privacy's sake). I have to say, I think Pepper is a freaking bimbo; she should have left that job 5 minutes into the first movie. She's stupid for sticking around. That's my opinion! The movie was entertaining - and guy-friend and I are um, we're movie-talkers. If you're familiar with Mystery Science Theater, that's kinda what it's like sitting through a movie with us. We talk, laugh uber loud, and follow tangents. This is why he's currently my fav movie buddy. It's a rare person who doesn't mind my endless chatter. The really funny thing was after the movie we decided it was a GREAT idea to go back to my place and watch Inglorious Bastards, which I've had from netflix for like two weeks, maybe more. Yeah, I had no idea it was full of subtitles. My contacts were trying to peel themselves off of my eyeballs by the end of the movie.
Tonight is uber seekrit project meeting. I'm thinking it'll include lots of tangents, talking, and possibly some productivity. I can't say any more or else the other co-conspirators might ambush me for my snack money. (Not really. I could tak'em.)
Practicing for harem night hasn't happened a whole lot. I have hardly any room to practice in my apartment. I think that I'm just going to take my hip scarf with me tonight and make everyone learn the routine so I can practice in an open space. I have got to figure out what to do with my hands. They're totally out of control, lol. So yes, dance class is tomorrow night, it'll be lots of fun and I'm really liking it.
Friday is yet up in the air as far as what's going on, as well as Saturday - though there was discussion of going to the derby game - I should probably poke people about that, shouldn't I?
And Sunday is Father's Day! I need to do something special for him. I think he's hit a streak of blue days. His health is good, but he's getting older and I think that's hard on him right now, and with my mom always gone on her bike he's left alone and lonely a lot. I need to be a better daughter and call him more often. I suck at phone calls. If my dad would only learn how to text.... Well, then we'd never STOP talking and he'd probably know far more about my life than he wants to - because anyone who text's with me generally ends up that way.
So I had someone ask me: Don't you ever regret your tattoos?
Honestly? Nope. I mean, there have been times that I've stopped and realized that life would be easier were I not a tattoo'd person. I've realized that a guy didn't like me because of my ink. I've realized some girls are scared of me/won't talk to me because of my skin color. But you know what? It's like a litmus test for people; the ones who really are cool enough to be in my life pass it with the physical. So if you think for an instant I regret or wish I would have done something differently, please stop. I'm happy with who I am. Okay, I'd like to loose like 50 pounds and I'd like it if my hair were longer, but really - those aren't that big. So I'm happy with me, so you should be happy for me.
And really cold Dr Pepper burns going down and is a great way to really wake yourself up! Back to work I go.

Adventures with Hair
Yes, hair, I said hair, I'm having more hair drama - not that there's a whole lot left to have drama with, but um, you'll understand.
So I wasn't looking for anything drastic; a trim. I wanted my hair trimmed and the overall look shaped because lets face it: the last girl who cut my hair had no idea what she was doing and didn't take anywhere near enough off so it's looked like a mess for several weeks now. Like last time we made a group appointment at Ogle but because of things out of our hands, it was just me who showed up Saturday morning.
First mistake: Not bringing a book.
Yes, I went sans book because I was going to go by BnN afterwords and pick up several books I'd ordered and didn't feel like starting a book I'd rush through to get to one of the shiny new ones. Bad choice. Why? Because the computer system was down and no one had any idea who was scheduled to have their hair did by who. I got there at 8:50 for a 9:00 appointment, and was 9:30 or 9:40 getting seated with the lovely Holly. I like Holly; in a few weeks I'm going back and we're going to experiment with colors. However, Holly took one look at the example picture I used way back in like February and called her instructor over. Won't lie, I cringed when the instructor came over because she was a much older woman who looked like she'd have the style sense of my grandmother and even less interest in what kind of haircut I wanted. I like my A-symetricalness! It totally goes against my OCD symmetrical behavior and I LOVE it.
Second mistake: Thinking granny couldn't bring it.
Granny brought it. Big time. She made me their classroom focus project. About ten beauty school students crowd around me for the entire process; shampooing, cutting the guides, all of it. Ten people asking about my hair, putting their hands in my hair, craning their heads around to look at my hair, and all of us making hilarious small talk. None of the above bothered me; in fact I was mostly entertained by this whole fiasco. It was a lot of fun; can't lie! There were many funny conversations flying around as Granny hacked and razored and cut my hair down, and down, and down, and down.....
Third mistake: Not realizing how short it got.
When I first cut my hair like this, it was just long enough in the back to fluff. I couldn't spike it. I used a volumizing mouse and some wax/putty stuff to achieve this super funky fun look. Ladies and gentlemen, I can now spike my hair. The haircut is awesome. It's super well done, fun, everything that it should be - heck, it was done by an instructor. But I just didn't realize how much the lady was pulling it up in the back, how short it was. I was mostly in shock Saturday but yesterday I sat back and realized just how short it is. I still like it, but I'll like it better in two weeks when it's grown out just a bit.
So here's some pictures of my hair:

like a fish out of water
So another week of dance classes, and I have to say that I think at times I look more like a fish floundering on land than an actual dancer. Tonight one of the ladies in my class and I spent half the time looking at each other with very lost looks on our faces and laughing with one another. The thing is that the usual instructor was there this week - where last week we had a substitute. 6:45 rolled around, the music went on and she started a sink-or-swim session. I think I succeed in moving in the right direction, but there's no way I'm doing this stuff right; we won't even discuss what I look like doing it. But it's fun! And my arms and all sorts of me hurt.
If you're into comics, the Boondock Saints comics are out. I'm subscribed to them via Heavy Ink. Comics are a very recent addition to my reading library.
Right now I'm reading an amazing Zombie book called Feed; I'm sort of anticipating being up later on tonight with nightmares, so I'm half tempted to draft this blog and publish it after that wake-up, but tomorrow is Thursday and I should be a good girl and do my Girl Talk Thursday since I've missed the last two Thursdays!
I'm constantly entertained by things that happen on Twitter. Like, the random stuff I say that complete strangers pick up on and reply to. It's funny to me. For instance, I twittered something to the affect of, I have a Dr Pepper. What do you have?, and got like 50 replies with what other random people had.
Today I realized I haven't picked up knitting needles in weeks. Going to try to fix that on Sunday, since, wow, Sunday's Crafty Day. I totally forgot! Oopse.
And it's a holiday weekend! That's uber exciting. And I might have plans for Monday, so that's a step up from my current habit. Oh, and I'm getting my hair cut this weekend. Finally!

The week in pictures. (picture heavy)
So Tuesday I went to the eyedoctor. Good news: My eyes aren't that much worse for wear. Badish news: we're switching me over to a hydrogen peroxide based eye solution to soak my contacts in. Now, the bad part of this is that if I forget it's hydrogen peroxide and wash the contact in it and stick it back in my eye, or let the contact soak for less than six hours - it's like insta-pain-please-kill-me-now! It's sort of cool because of how the contacts are soaked. I took pictures because I think it's super nifty. The contact vial is different than what I'm used to, each lense has it's own "cage" and it's submerged in the solution and the gray ring on the bottom of the cage-thinggie reacts to the solution and it purifies my lenses... Yeah, just look at the pictures already!
Yup, I find it totally interesting. I do understand if you do not.
My little sprouts are shooting up! I'm taking the cover off today because several are hitting the top of the cover and starting to grow bent. There were also two who were just sitting on the top of the pallet, growing roots out but not putting them into the peat, so I manually planted those, LoL. I have one pea plant that suddenly has a covering of silvery fuzz and I need to research and see what that is and if I need to remove it or kill it or something. Any ideas?
I was going to show off some individual views, but they all look over-exposed and not all that great, so you get this. I'm guessing I'll be planting them next week and then hopefully start a smaller tray of just veggies.
Last night was like... knitting night. I tried and failed the fingerless gloves pattern I was irate at earlier this week.
There wasn't enough increase for it to go around my actual hand. I'm bummed, but I went off pattern so I'm not all that surprised. I couldn't figure out what it wanted me to do for the bow so I skipped it. Bad idea, huh? So I started on another piece, which was mostly me just figuring out how to read graph patterns, which I think I sort of do now, which is exciting.
I'm sortof not sure what I'm going to do with this. It curls up on it's self really bad, but I'm thinking if I continue the stripes up a ways, I could make a dish towel or a small purse with a flap. I don't know... Suggestions? I think that, even though I tried not to, the yarn got pulled too tight in the back in places :-/ Oh well, for my first try I'm happy! I only missed one color change spot and you can't see it and it's so small you can't tell. The picture looks a little warped, which is a bummer :-/
And that's it!
Now for the weekend: I need to get up and get to cleaning and then write, write, write!

Indecision....
So I'm considering buying my own domain and branching out from just a blog - however, I know me and the whole website would become a hobby and I wouldn't be happy until I understood how to do all sorts of nifty stuff - and I don't know if I should undertake that. I mean I like the idea of having a simple address to hand out, but is it really necessary? Do I need it? I don't think I do - yet. I might reconsider this closer to the Writer's Conference in April, so there might be a whole rant where I berate myself for not buying and tinkering with a website now. Oh well. Never mind me - I'm just crazy today.
I think I'm on a fairy tale kick after reading Rose Daughter the last Tuesday and Wednesday. I picked up Ella Enchanted to follow next, however, I just read the review of The Lost Legion over at The Book Book Blog and that book is sitting on my shelf waiting for me to read it. I was going to read Lackey's Foundation after Ella Enchanted, but maybe I should read The Lost Legion instead..... Hmmm, The Lost Legion takes up twice as much space as the hardback Foundation.... And the only reason I bought that hardback was because it was like $5 and it wasn't out in paperback yet.
Yesterday, when I started this blog, I was really hung on wanting to get my hair cut or just trimming my bangs. I have since mastered my indecision and after loving this picture with the girl in the blue shirt and her mop of brown and blonde hair, I decided I wanted something short and artistic. Now mine's different, but inspired by this. I basically walked in, handed him the paper, he pulled out one of those hair razors and sprayed my hair liberally, grabbed handfuls which were twisted around and then started hacking with the razor. He said I completely dulled his razor and by the end of it he might as well have been pulling hair out because yeah - I have a lot of hair and if that's not enough the individual strands of hair are thick as well. I'm not complaining!

snowy weeks
So this recent onset of snow, snow and OMG MORE SNOW?!?!?! left me with little to blog about because my face has been pressed against the glass watching these mysterious fluffy fat flakes of white stuff drift down from the sky. This is Texas; we get anorexic pieces of hail and dare call it snow maybe once a year. The last twenty-four-hours have provided a rare glimpse into what a real winter-wonderland is and the change on the landscape has been mystical - though it hasn't been without it's problems. Had to cancel plans for the theater last night, wound up using my broom to literally sweep a foot of snow off my Jeep, and just getting out of the apartment complex was tricky simply because no one had been attempting it. A silly person on the way into work decided to drive in all the turn lanes and then swerve in front of me several times; one time I was sliding because I was driving on snow and couldn't get traction to stop. Idiot. Oh well. I drive a nice, big Jeep. He would have been squashed had the light not turned green!
Okay, so Valentine's Day is coming up this weekend. I belatedly realized that I'm already planning on spending it with some of the most wonderful people I know; my parents. We'll probably while away the afternoon just being in the same room, have dinner and then I'll go home, but it's what we do. We aren't really an exciting family-time type of family, but they're my family and I love them.
I think that Valentine's Day doesn't really bother me - it's the people who feel that a day pledged to celebrating love is an excuse and a right to bemoan their singleness. I think that's silly. I think that people should really take advantage of V-Day and take the opportunity to tell people in their lives that you love them and that they're special. Those are my thoughts. There are more than a few people I'd like to tell them to stop being so selfish but I know it won't do any good.
I recently subscribed to John Scalzi's blog, Whatever. I stumbled across his first chapter of his new book, God Engines. I read it. I need to read all of it. Why didn't I see this yesterday when I would have been at Borders? Boo! And here I am pleading to not buy any more books until I read a good chunk (5-10!!!! I promise!). I'm grumbling about this decision but I'll stick to it for a little while longer. I'm so intrigued by the idea behind the book that the first chapter reveals! But I can wait. I read Zeus yesterday, finished the Glass Castle last night, so now I want to read McKinley's Sherwood book and I'll probably go ahead and read Touch of Evil .... and then I have a whole shelf of stuff to pick from!
Ug. Blogger lost the last bit of my post. So lets see.... I plan on writing some this weekend. Surprise, surprise. Get my bangs trimmed most likely. Hopefully see The Lightning Thief and Wolfman. And that's all I'm saying.

being a girl is expensive
Yes, more book talk. So almost right after I posted my last blog where I bemoan my writing - I read Janice Hardy's weekly Re-Write Wednesday blog entitled, The Frankendraft. Now, this actually helped me to see that my story isn't buried, it's still plainly obvious - to me of course - and I don't see it as having some of the other bits she talks about - so maybe there's hope for me yet! It's a little encouraging at least! However, yesterday was all about indulging in a semi melt-down/pity-party about how terrible I was doing and woe is me, I should be doing something else! I laid down around 11 on Wednesday night, got comfortable - and then - EUREKA! I had a brilliant idea I should have had ages ago when writing the first draft. I even twittered about it! And then I promptly cuddled up to my pillows to go to sleep. Except then I was too consumed by the idea to do anything else. In short, I got up and wrote until 2am. I was very tired, please excuse the randomness as I tend to keep a blog in edit until I feel like posting it. This one happens to cover three days.
On another topic... I need to get my bangs trimmed, but the idea of sitting down in a chair while someone waves scissors around my head gives me nightmares of what happened last time. They're just bangs - right? I'm not ready to trust someone with the rest of my hair; I just want my bangs trimmed. Oh - well then I think I might need an eyebrow wax too.... Blarg - being a girl is expensive!!!
So I'm still reading through The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and I keep wanting to scream at it. I find myself not caring about the MMC and really only about the bits on the FMC - unfortunately 3/4's of what I've read are about the character I don't particularly care about. Grrrrr! At least last night she came into a more prominent role. I'll save my other thoughts for my book review. [edit] Finished last night. I want to burn the book.
I'm currently sitting at my desk wondering what reason I could have to try making Bakerella's new Oscar Cookies. OMG they look so YUMMY!
And yet more book drama - Macmillan takes a shot at Amazon in an add for a new book with the bottom text saying Available Everywhere Except Amazon! Other book publishers are joining in on the whole mess and a friend and I have started a GoogleWave to keep a semi organized chronicle of all the stuff that's going on because - well - I'm a drama whore.
OMGOMGOMG - This just made my Friday! Robin McKinley shared the new cover of her upcoming book, Pegasus. I'm super excited!!!!

Regrets
So, I went in with these two pictures as my references/options for my hair cut. The first is what I really wanted, the second to demonstrate that I wanted more blunt layers.
she would do what I asked. Well that seemed reasonable and I was now on a time crunch so I went with it. Some time later she spins me around and - my hair is up to my SHOULDERS! She cut off more than six inches of hair. SIX INCHES. I had to fight with her to get her to cut my bangs how I like them. I hate my hair. It's a like, Cleopatra look. It makes my fat face look fatter. I'm going in tomorrow and getting the shorter hair cut since now I don't have the length to pull off the other. I'm so frusterated and ticked off and angry. I've struggled with wanting to cut my hair all year, I stuck it out through the summer months - and now it's all gone. Bye bye! So depressing.

About Me
- Cid
- Grew up traveling to rodeos with my parents. I've gone across the world thanks to my gypsie feet. I feel sometimes like I've done everything & nothing. I've played roller derby, traveled parts of the world, have four degrees. I've done some things most people will never do in their lives & still I want to do more. I want to work with orphans & teenagers again. I'm a Christian. I have a lot of tattoos. I like art therefore I want to be art. I love people. I started writing years ago when I was a kid. I think at the time it was an outlet for me; I found escape in my word & the worlds I created. Eventually I just started to like creating stuff & that's when I started sharing it with other people. Now I think I write every day. I want to do NaNoWrMo this year. I'm also learning how to knit. I think I'm on my way to being an eccentric old woman who runs around the world doing silly cazy things and knitting while she does them. Be on your guard I have knitting needles!
